This Eritrea's third Olympic participation is given the highest preparation and the condition of the runners is great says Eritrea's Chief De Mission at Beijing Olympics, Mr. Berhane Araia.
Only three runners are made to get to China early for the Opening ceremony. The rest are training hard in suitable altitude in Eritrea. Zerisenay, Teklemariam and Kidane who will take part in the 10,000 meters will leave the nation's Capital, Asmara, in a week. Upon arrival in Beijing, they will fly into a high altitude area of China which is about two hours from Beijing until their competition is up. This will help them to perform well. The same thing will happen with the Marathon team: Yonas, Yared, Tesfayohannes, Ghebru and Nebyat who will fly to China on the 17th of this month.
Zerisenay Tadesse, Teklemariam Medhin and Yared Asmerom have informed EAAA that themselves and the other runners are in great shape and they are looking for the greatest victory at the Olympics. Simret Sultan has thanked Eritreans for the support of the athletes and informed us they will pay the ultimate sucrifice in Beijing. We will be contacting soon the head coach, Coach Levingston Abraha.
The Olympic Team also praised Eritrean Embassy in China for their reception and fulfilling what they need. "Ambassador Tseggai has made the Olympic team feel like home in Beijing and provided the Olympic team with every thing we need." said Berhane.
EAAA also thanks Ambassador Tseggai and his staff for making the ride of the Ere Olympic team smooth and for facilitating EAAA communication with the Olympic team.
In a related event, EAAA events at the DC Festival are gaining moment. All day Saturday there will be competitions and people have requested more of long distance.
More people are also preparing to commemorate Eritrea's achievement in Olympics through the 5K run. ENHOC has provided flags for the event and people are excited to take part in it. people from other cities and states of the USA are confirming to participate in the Eritrean Olympic Memorial 5K run. The 5K run will be on Sunday at 3:00pm at the half time of the soccer championship game at 1310 Childress st. NE Washington,DC 20002.
