It has often been mentioned that the Filfil Selemuna area is a promising tourist attraction area. To exploit this natural resource, the Government of Eritrea constructed the Serejeka-Shebah-Gahtelay road. And now the 1st phase of the Beleza-Drfo road is already completed.
“Even though the community of Drfo will be the main beneficiary of this road, tourism industry will also take its part,” said Mr. Hzkias Whbet, Administrator of the Administrative Area of Akrya, who is actively participating in the construction of the road.
In addition to the community of Drfo, there are other six small villages which will be the main beneficiaries of the road.
The people in the area have many problems. The farmers were unable to take their agricultural products to the market on time and even though there is one well equipped clinic, the people have problems in bringing the patients referred to the hospitals in the capital. Now, as the construction of the road is nearing completion, the farmers will take their products to the market on time and will enlarge their farm also. And Patients will not be late in reaching the needed hospital.
The reason they choose the Beleza road and not the Asmara-Massawa Road to Drfo or Adinfas to Drfo is that, according to Mr. Hizkias, there was a very old road up to the half way point and as a result it demands less effort and expense as there are fewer bridges needed to be constructed.
Regarding the second phase, Engineer Eyob Haile, Manager of Zula Construction Company, said that they will construct 15 large and 35 small bridges and they will put selected sub base material which is suitable for building roads but is not as durable as asphalt road.
There is, however, a plan to make it a ring road by constructing a new road from Drfo to the Asmara-Masawa road.
The 24 million Nakfa project was started in December 2007 by Zula Construction Company and is expected to be completed in March 2009. 65 permanent and 100 temporary employees are participating in the construction.
