In addition to its ongoing activities to meet local demands, Sembel Metal and Wood Works Company (SMWC) is planning to expand its business activities so as to include regional and international markets.
Owing to the good quality production of the company and in particular that of the metal works section, foreign markets like those of Sudan, Djibouti and Dubai are showing increased interests in the products.
Mr. Gherezghier Asmelash, General Manager of the company, said that the company is “on the pursuit of excellence” trying to satisfy its customers at home and abroad.
To that end, most of its raw materials are imported from countries like Italy, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, thus resulting in quality and competitive end products.
Applying advanced hi-tech machines imported from Italy and administering a workforce of around 1200 employees, more than 730 out of whom are skilled laborers, the company has been registering great progress in providing fine quality wood and metal products.
Various types of door and window frames produced by the company for instance, have received great acclaim from customers, and have been made into a catalogue specifically for customers from abroad.
Established during the struggle for independence, SMWC secured its business license only in the mid 1990s, but has been rapidly growing into a large-scale industry that encompasses metal, wood, upholstery, aluminum, prefabricates and hangar construction sections among many others.
