May 15 is a National Tree Planting Day. What this day demonstrates is the benefits that a society gains from planting as many trees as possible and protecting them. Since forestation requires an organized effort of the public and government, May 15 reminds us to provide our contribution to environmental protection by planting at lest one tree each.

Augmenting Telecommunications Service

Telecommunications in Eritrea has a history of more than 50 years. But it was at its low stage especially at the Ethiopian colonial period. At that time, there was a very poor telecommunications system with around 13,000 telephone lines being distributed over the whole country: 10 thousand lines in Asmara and its surroundings, one thousand in Massawa, and 1,800 lines in Assab. Towns like Mendefera, Adi-quala, Dekemhare and Adi-keih had 100 lines each. The telephone lines in those towns could provide communication only to Asmara.

Because people facing different problems have different levels of need, there is definitely a place for the highly trained professional clinical counselor. For many, nothing less than a medically trained therapist is needed. On the other hand, there are many people who would respond positively to counseling from a trained lay counselor, especially if medical professionals are consulted at the same time. Such people may just need some elementary counseling on how to respond to their problems.
