Why all Roads to Peace Run through Asmara
Amanuel Nayr, Jul 22, 2010 - 8:52am
All Roads to peace run through Asmara. This is the slogan of the International Youth Forum launched yesterday in Asmara, Eritrea. When I read this in the website of the National Union of the Eritrean Youth and Students a few days ago, I began pondering on some questions: why through Asmara? Why was this slogan chosen? In search for some answers, I returned to the past. Here are my ‘preliminary findings’.

A Few Things About the Work of the EFRC Part 2
Tsigye Hailemichael, Jun 4, 2010 - 6:02pm
In the last two years, the EFRC has rated over 30 films produced in Eritrea. On the basis of its evaluation the Committee came to the conclusion that the greatest weakness was found in the film scripts. This very fact was talked about at the seminar of October 10, 2009, in the presence of 300 participants involved in the film business and in the arts. It is on the basis of that need that the Eritrean Film Rating Committee organized a workshop on scriptwriting at Cinema Odeon from February 17th to March 3rd. The workshop was sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the PFDJ and the British Council in Asmara and was taught by Mrs. Margaret Henry, who teaches scriptwriting in London, England. Over 120 participants, mostly young scriptwriters, men and women both, followed assiduously the course throughout the ten days. I asked three of the participants to give me their views on the course. They are Mary Mehari, Merhawi Meles, and Sinados Yacob.

ETHIOPIA: Elections or not, Meles Zenawi’s regime remains illegitimate
Sophia Tesfamariam, May 22, 2010 - 11:16am
23 May 2010 is the day set for the Ethiopian elections. There is no doubt that the minority regime in Ethiopia led by Meles Zenawi, Washington’s mercenary in the Horn, will win by a landslide. To prevent them from challenging its rule, members of the various Ethiopian opposition and their supporters have been harassed, intimidated, detained and some have been killed in cold blood. The US-led international community will no doubt bless and accept the results of the stolen elections as they did with the flawed elections of 2005, 2000, 1995, and 1992.

Against All Odds, Eritrea celebrates its Hard-won Independence
Kalekristos Zerisenay, May 18, 2010 - 7:59am
Eritrean history is a history of astonishments. Glancing the history of the late 1940s and early 1950s only gives sufficient information about how Eritrea was amazingly refused its independence while many African colonies were given their freedom. If the United Nations system were democratic, Eritrea would have been one of the first independent nations in Africa.

Eritrean workers celebrated May Day in the presence of Ministers, government officials, diplomats and invited employers and employees. Prior to independence celebrating May Day wasn’t considered worthy due Ethiopia’s oppressive and dictatorial colonial rule.
