‘Abenet’ union improves the lives of its members

Since it was Saturday, a market day of the town, a crowd of people, livestock and different items had filled the town. Thousands of people from the town and its environs gather on this day to buy and sell different items.

The 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting commenced at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on September 23 and lasted until September 30, 2009. Around one hundred twenty heads of state are expected to attend. According to the United Nations, those world leaders would deliberate on the Millennium Development Goals, world financial and economic crisis, climate change, disarmament, reform of the United Nations, and appraise the Peace-building Commission and the Human Rights Council.

Since the old times, as there are no natural lakes in Eritrea, the people of Eritrea have been dependent on marine fish only. But from now onwards, as much effort is being exerted to develop freshwater fishing, the people will have another source of fish.

Famous for its export oriented products, the company basic objective is to produce world class garment and textile products. In an interview he conducted with Shaebia.org, Mr. Stefano Bonnazi, General Manager of ZaEr said “in its quest of manufacturing export-oriented high quality products, the company has begun to manufacture Giorgio Armani, Nara Camicie and other world-class designs and put on sale to the world market through Cotonificio Honegger S.p.A, a subsidiary of Zambaiti Copertificio,” based in Albino, Italy.

Moringa olifera, besides meeting humans and animals nutritional needs, as has been studied by international medical researchers, it can cure 200 different diseases, says Mr. Habte Arefayne, General Manager of Diamond Agro Industry.
Taking its myriad uses in nutritional and medicinal sectors inconsideration and as it grows best in arid conditions and a drought-tolerant plant, the investment is recommendable, he added. Moringa can be cultivated in most of Eritrea’s arable land, hence if the investment has taken seriously, Eritrea can have a share in the exportation of Moringa products to regional and international markets, he notes.

When people see the mountain of stones in Gogne, Geleb and other places of the country, they couldn’t easily realize that the major buildings in the country are decorated by their products. Many people usually talk about oil, gold, diamond and other resources of countries, but Eritreans have to realize that there are mountains of marble and granite resources that they should be proud of.

Two things are required for Eritrea to free itself from the prevailing economic problem: great effort and responsibility. We should work with every potential to compensate for what is lost during decades of colonial period. The country owes its people a lot.
Agricultural investment is one of our basic and priority tasks. The main experience acquired in the past stages of agricultural sectors shows that our farming system needs to change. Problems are unavoidable that the society still acquires limited knowledge in farming. Though people have experienced farming for most of their life time, life is still from hand to mouth.

Tourism is the only service where there is a positive balance of trade flowing from the devel¬oped world to third world countries. Specifical¬ly, tourism's economic activities effectively improves the livelihoods of the people through income generation, employment creation, improved infrastructure, increased standard of living and increased government revenue.

Fred Hollows Intraocular Lens Laboratory has not only met domestic demands, but is also becoming competitive in the world market with 73.5% of its product being exported to Asian countries and 22.5% to countries in Africa, Europe, Oceania and Americas; the rest being used in Eritrea, says Mr. Mengisteab Tewoldeberhan, manager of the Laboratory.
