Would Eritrea have a comparative advantage in Agricultural sector in the Horn Region?
Berhane Asgedom, May 12, 2008 - 12:36pm
Nature has endowed for some nation natural resources such as oil, minerals, for others fertile land, strategic geographical location, rich tourism potential, and for some others nothing else but arid/desert land. However, even though nature has been fair for some nations and very unfair for some others in its endowment, thanks to globalization what one country does not have could be accessed from others which have it. After all no nation is self-sufficient for one thing or another it has to depend on others.

The Renovation of the Port of Massawa
Khaled Mohammedberhan , May 12, 2008 - 12:24pm
The port of Massawa was one of the most developed ports in East Africa. Especially at the Italian colonial period, the port had well-developed road and rail transportation systems and advanced technology. But, this did not last long, after the coming of the British colonial administration. Many cranes were sold, railways destroyed and the whole infrastructure ruined. The worst however, came during the Ethiopian colonial period. The port was only serving the Ethiopian army with no maintenance. Especially in 1990, the Ethiopian army deliberately bombarded the port.

Recently it has been reported that Ethiopia cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar due to Al-Jazeera’s coverage on the Ogaden situation. Regarding this issue I recently read an article on Walta (The pro-TPLF government website) blaming Al-Jazeera, titled “Qatar’s Al-Jazeera Propaganda targets Africa, Ethiopia.” This article, filled with falsehood and biased assessment forced me to give this brief reply.
