Compatriots inside the country and abroad
Ladies & Gentlemen

In the first place, I would like to say "You Live On!" to our martyrs who not only ensured a free and sovereign Eritrea but also inculcated in our minds the resolve to strive with dedication for the nation's development and prosperity, as well as honour the trust of the martyrs.

The different activities undertaken by compatriots at home and abroad along with friends in commemoration of this auspicious day through candle lights and organizing commemorative special events and statements represent clear manifestations of the "You Live On!" message.

The ever mounting endeavours being made to transform Eritrea into a genuinely independent and sovereign nation as well as truly developed and prosperous fully attest to the "You Live On!" message.

It is only the one who leads a life of servitude who is really dead, and Not the individual who sacrifices his dear life in defense of a noble cause; it is only the one that is forgotten who is really dead, and Not the patriot who is always remembered in the hearts and minds of fellow nationals. Congratulations! to the Eritrean people who asserted "You Live On!" to the martyrs.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

The pledge that gets renewed and ever more strengthened each year during an occasion like the present one concerns that of achieving economic emancipation through concerted development endeavours, notably food security, above and beyond safeguarding the nation's sovereignty. In this connection, it is worth noting that the challenges and difficulties emanating from the current world economic crises compel us to redouble our concerted efforts to cope with such challenges.

The gratifying accomplishments already registered in making farming plots ready for cultivation without being kept hostage to uncertainties and limitation of resources, despite the escalating price of fuel and consumer items, coupled with the ever varying weather forecasts offer real hope. In this regard, the significant work input of the people including members of the Defense Force is indeed impressive.

Moreover, it should be taken into account that we need to exert unremitting efforts during the rainy season and beyond the available resources to score still greater achievements without getting complacent with the outcome already registered.

It is equally obvious that Eritrean citizens residing abroad need to further enhance their significant activities and contributions as regards coping with the challenge of national economic emancipation and reinforcing resource potentials.

Wishing all citizens a promising rainy season, I call on compatriots at home and abroad including members of the Defense Force to once again say "You Live On!" to our martyrs, through renewed work commitment and the outcome of united endeavours.
