National Festival is an occasion where all Eritreans come together to share experiences and promote their culture and patriotism. Moreover, it is a ground to display some major activities in the country. The Higher Education Pavilion is one of the major pavilions in this year’s festival at the expo ground in which activities of higher education schools and colleges were displayed.
The Orota School of Medicine and Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, College of Business and Economics, Hamelmalo Agricultural College, College of Marine Sciences and Technology, and Eri-Mind System Information are some of the institutions that have displayed their works in the pavilion.
The institutions give explanations to visitors about their activities and some provide brochures.
Orota School of Medicine and Dentistry was established in 2004 with 32 students. It is a six-year program and is expected to graduate its first batch of students with a Doctoral degree. Its objective is to produce health professionals with knowledge and professional skills.
The School of Pharmacy from the College of Health Sciences has its booth situated next to the Orota School of Medicine. Students and lecturers of the college explained that the future plan of the college is to establish a post graduate program, activate and strengthen graduates association, establish international linkage to insure academic excellence and to start new programs like a doctorate in pharmacy.
A recently graduated lecturer in the College of Business and Economics was explaining about the college’s activities and future plans. In his explanation Mr. Samsom said that the college’s goal is to establish a well staffed and equipped institution capable of producing an adequate number of graduates in their respective departments.
“Graduates of the college have a bright future as they have a better ground to play their role in the Horn of Africa’s sole free zone market,” he added.
“I didn’t know these many people where not familiar with our college. I am sure more students and parents will adjust their future plans to join the college,” said Mr. Merhawi Petros from the Hamelmalo Agricultural College. He was explaining the activities of his college to the visitors.
He was astonished that some foreigners who visited their site found the college’s activities as hard to believe. “Some even asked if the college’s actual achievements were instead future plans,” he added.
The pavilion also hosted private schools. Eri-Mind System Information was one of them. The school was established one year ago and is providing courses on Information Technology, Networking, Computer Programming, Data Base and so on.
But for the festival, the institution came to introduce its future website which will help parents to know about their children’s situation in their school.
According to Aida Woldu, an instructor in the school, the website will feed information weekly and is expected to start by the end of this year.
Abraha Bahta School for the Blind is also displaying its activities in the pavilion. Supported by their teachers, visually impaired students explained about their school to the visitors.
