In the past few days, Asmara welcomed the eagerly awaited summer rains. Reasonably good rainfall has been washing the streets of Asmara, thereby boosting the population’s hopes for a good rainy season.
Especially, on Saturday July 7, 2007, the dark clouds that have been hovering over the capital the entire morning resulted in heavy rains for three hours in the afternoon. The evening of the day before was also marked with chilly weather and steady rain.
Similar heavy rains were also registered in various parts of the country. In the Adi-Keyih area for instance, news reports disclosed that rainfall filled ponds and dams in the area to capacity.
Last week, welcome was given not only to rainfall, but to Warsay-Yikealo students as well. Members of the 20th round of national service have been returning to their homes after attending their one year of military and academic training.
The students, who graduated on June 30, 2007 in Sawa, came home for a brief vacation and will go back to Sawa to get their matriculation results. Subsequently, those who passed will join the Mainefhi College while the remaining will go to the recently established vocational colleges in Sawa.
Meanwhile, 11th grade students from all over the country left for Sawa for the 21st round of national service. Families and friends of the students bade them farewell at their respective schools.
